This song made famous by Matt Monro is a kindly, though rather tongue-in-cheek, view of the emergent second-wave feminism, and in its story-telling paints a picture of a moment in history in the incidental details of milk deliveries office work as much as in the main incidents of its narrative. The chorus transcends this moment in its cheerfully uplifting appeal to a brighter, more optimistic future.

The arrangement was commissioned to celebrate a moment in the life of a women's chorus, and is crafted to make sure all singers get to participate in relaying the narrative. This is also why the lyrics on this video aren't the same as the original - the sheet music uses the version the songwriters produced!
